50 Years of Love

I know, I know, I've been absent. But I promise that I really have been busy. Things picked up at the salon, BIG TIME, and I had a little party that took quite a bit of planning.

You see, two of my favorite people in the whole world celebrated 50 years of marriage!! Of course they needed a party!! And of course being the eldest daughter (and a control freak) I jumped in with both feet!
My Wonderful Parents

The actual anniversary date fell in December!! Bad timing folks, just sayin'. So we planned the party for January instead. That way my brother could be here on leave from the middle east and it wouldn't be competing with Christmas.
Mom is 3rd generation to be married for 50 years.

We stayed with the Christmas theme, and bought most of the decorations on clearance..........cuz that's how we roll!

A wonderful neighbor offered to make the cake and I contacted the wonderful Bonnie at Photography by Bon to take all of the pictures!
V. J. got as close to their original cake as she could.

The whole Family!
The siblings and spouses
All but 4 grandchildren were there!

Love Joe's Pulled Pork!!

Food assignments were handed out to family members and we had a very small dinner party for my parents!

The 'Button' Family!
My favorite pic! My brother and his wife!

It was fun to have everyone together for this special event. And a big thanks to all who attended or helped. They enjoyed this more than the original reception.

There's no way I'm sharing all of the pictures! There are way too many. So enjoy these and I'll try to be better at keeping our adventures updated.

Harvest....

We all seem to harvest in different ways around here....

I choose the organic things, such as tomato soup, apples, peaches, pears, chili sauce, etc.
pears, 2nd batch of peaches

tomato soup and a bottle of dilly beans from a neighbor

And the he-man woman haters club choose to stomp around in the brush and harvest the meat.  They did get 2 deer this fall.
Ron's deer...scored 170 Boone and Crockett.

Jesse's deer, minus an antler, it got shot off!!

Love my family!

Little Creek Ranch
I absolutely love the time I get to spend with my family!! We have rented a huge cabin for the last 2 years and have our reservations for next year already.  This place is amazing! It has enough space to sleep 50 people. Luckily, we don't need that much room....yet.

We managed to amuse ourselves and have a good time, despite the fact that some of the family couldn't make it.

Of course there was lots of food, we always over do it in that area.
some of the chefs
Lots of time to target practice, some more than others. I swear they picked up their guns before their feet hit the floor in the morning!!

{Sharp shooters in the morning}

There were lots of other activities going on also...such as games, reading, scrapbooking and all over silliness!

doing the 'dead lizard'

snipe hunting

 {Insert Sweet Georgia Brown music here}

fierce basketball games

Some of it more silly than others!!
TROUBLE!!

Yikes!!

{Some of the cutest kidlets ever!}

Watching 'Rifle Golf' from the cabin

Shaner decided that it was his job to take care of Grandpa...he's having a hard time walking lately. What an awesome son that I have.
Papa and Shane, watching the sharp shooters!

The silliness kept going up until the minute we left. Here a just a couple of the pictures of the hat that we all took turns wearing.
The Frito Bandito

We have more fun than any other family I know!!

The 'rock hounds'

Chani kept Uncle Ron hiking with her to find some 'cool' rocks to add to her collection.

my own 'Beethoven'

Heath entertained us on one of the two antique pianos in the cabin. He knows I LURVE  Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata!

Don't you wish you had been with us??

Don't be too jealous! Party on with your favorite peeps!!

The Healing Field

I went to SLC this weekend for a class that I desperately wanted to attend, and took the mama and a niece with me. I didn't take any pics at the class, (because I was busy learning) but I did get some of the rest of the trip.

Sunday morning, we went to the Healing Field in Sandy......what an awesome sight that was.
I don't think that I was quit prepared for the emotions that visiting this would bring back.
View from across the street.
There is one flag for every person who lost their lives on that tragic day.
Beginning with those aboard the fateful flights that September morning.

Moving to the Pentagon and ending at the World Trade Center.

My heart was in my throat the entire time we were there.
Debris from the World Trade Center.

It took me right back to that morning. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with one of my sons watching it all unfold on the news...

One flag for every employee and every first responder.......

After a while, I had to quit reading the bios.....I couldn't see them through my tears.
Love this new tribute!

Across the street, in front of City Hall is a new bronze statue,
One flag for every Armed forces man and woman from Utah.

and some state flags. These flags are to honor those who have lost their lives in the war on terror. (These are only about half of the flags.)

We were reminded that the little girl we had with us had not even been born when this great tragedy occurred. She had no idea what all of the flags and the statue represented. So Grandma explained it in simple terms.

I still don't know that she understands the magnitude of this event. It's kind of like me trying to understand the feelings people had when Pearl Harbor was attacked. I know a little more now, having lived through this...and I will never forget that awful morning.

With a brother and a young cousin over seas, fighting to keep us safe and free, this tribute means even more.

May we never, ever forget.
